The foundation of acoustical comfort in the office is the “Privacy Index” (PI). As acoustical consultant Steve Johnson explains it:

“Imagine going into an office, closing the door and reading 100 words at random out of the dictionary. If your colleague in the adjoining office can understand 5 words out of 100, the office has achieved a PI of 95. This is the definition of confidentiality. Most commercial office buildings provide a PI less than 80. Sound travels from one space to the next through numerous weaknesses in the built environment. The sound of speech passes the union of ceiling and the wall and through lights and air conditioning components. Like water from a bucket with holes, the energy of sound finds every opening no matter how small.

A privacy Index of 80 defines normal privacy. This is an important threshold. Reaching a PI of 80 allows for a significant reduction in distractions.

Partition Wall STC-53

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

 Wall tested assembly: 70mm GI stud Covered on both sides with a single layer of 12 mm thick MR, FR, SI rated Hilux board. The Hilux board was attached using screws at 600mm o.c.. The GI studs were spaced on 600mm centers. The wall section was filled with 75mm thick fiberglass insulation 24kg ~ 48KG/Cub. Mtr density. A single layer of 16 oz. Acoustiblok was attached to the Studs as shown in picture. All outside joints caulked.

Partition Wall STC-52

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

Wall tested assembly: 50x100mm wood top and bottom plate and studs covered on both sides with a single layer of 15/16 mm thick Drywall/gypsum board. The gypsum board was attached using 6d nails at 300mm o.c.. The wood studs were spaced on 600mm centers. The wall section was filled with 75mm thick fiberglass insulation 24kg ~ 48KG/Cub. Mtr density. A single layer of 16 oz. Acoustiblok
was attached to the Studs as shown in picture.

Partition Wall STC-57

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

·         WALL THICKNESS: 100mm (Approx.)

·         STC Rating: 57

·         UL Classified: UL300, UL400, V400 Walls

  Wall tested assembly: 72mm GI stud Covered on both sides with a single layer of 12/15 mm thick Drywall Board. The Drywall Board was attached using screws at 600mm o.c.. The GI studs were spaced on 600mm centers. The wall section was filled with 75mm thick fiberglass insulation 24kg ~ 48KG/Cub. Mtr density. A two layer of 3mm thick sound barrier of Acoustiblok was attached to the Studs both side as shown in picture.  Joints taped and caulked as appropriate to create a uniformly airtight seal.

For better performance we can go for 90mm GI studs if space is not constrain.

Partition Wall STC-61

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

The tested assembly: 15mm Drywall board with caulked seams installed with drywall screws 300mm o/c, 40x90mm wood studs spaced 300mm o/c, 1 layer of 3mm Thick sound barrier of Acoustiblok under drywall on both sides. Stud rows spaced for 25mm air gap, and a total of 75+75mm fiberglass batts installed as shown.   Joints taped and caulked as appropriate to create a uniformly airtight seal.

Partition Wall STC-66

The tested assembly: 15/12mm Hilux board with caulked seams installed with drywall screws 300mm o/c, 40 x 90mm steel studs spaced 600mm o/c, 1 layer of 16 oz. Acoustiblok under drywall on both sides. Stud rows spaced for 50mm air gap and a total of 70+70mm fiberglass 48 Kg/Cub. Mtr density batts installed as shown.

  Joints taped and caulked as appropriate to create a uniformly airtight seal.

Partition Wall STC-71

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

"STC 71 ratings for Acoustiblok exceed the testing capabilities of most laboratories,” - Kurt Golden, test administrator at Architectural Testing, Inc., York, Pen.

The tested assembly: 8 x 16" concrete block, steel 2x4 studs spaced 1/2" from the block, with 4" mineral wool insulation, and 3mm thick Sound Barrier of Acoustiblok under the drywall.

 

The acoustical laboratory at Architectural Testing Inc. recorded a remarkable STC of 71 for this wall design. This is a noise reduction in excess of 98% to human hearing.

Partition Wall STC-85

The tested assembly: 8 x 16" concrete block, steel 2x4 studs spaced 1/2" from the block, with 4" mineral wool insulation, and Acoustiblok under the drywall.

 

 The acoustical laboratory at Architectural Testing Inc. recorded a remarkable STC of 85 for this wall design. This is a noise reduction well in excess of 99% to human hearing.
